Concern for Caution is a grassroots campaign for the creation of an AI safety award — recognition for accomplishing major victories in the ongoing effort to secure humanity's future in an age of uncertainty.
We've watched the recent boom in AI capabilities, and we share the concerns of top scientists in the field that the technology may lead to catastrophic harm, including the possibility of mass death or human extinction. These concerns come from AI's exponentially fast development, paired with a lack of effective government oversight.
why now?
Following the Hugging Face AI cyberattack, and the warnings of top AI researchers such as Jacob Coxon, Dario Amodei, and Eliezer Yudkowsky, we believe those who take action now are critical to humanity's survival.
We believe AI can and must be managed effectively, promptly, and permanently — and that a future worth living in is one with humanity's wellbeing at the center of politics. Left unchecked, AI's capabilities and motives put humanity at extreme risk.
We need a strong leader to come forward and take immediate steps to push the regulation of AI from a non‑partisan perspective. If nothing is done, the implications could be detrimental for humanity.
the award
The AI Safety Award will be given to the person who accomplishes the crucial task of passing and enforcing laws aimed at regulating AI. It will be issued by a committee of experts across Public Policy, Computer Science, and Philosophy.
World leaders and lawmakers who receive this award will be recognized as heroes of humanity for years to come.
